Dubai Courts and DIFC Courts have temporarily closed their doors and postponed hearings until the end of April

March, 19,2020

By

As a precautionary measure to protect their staff and members of the public from COVID-19, Dubai Courts and DIFC Courts are suspending their operations for 6 weeks.

Dubai Courts
Hearings before all levels of the Dubai Courts (Court of First Instance, Court of Appeal and Court of Cassation) which are scheduled between 22 March until 16 April 2020 have been temporarily adjourned. Hearings will resume on 19 April 2020.

However, petitions and submissions can be submitted online on the Dubai Courts website using the smart system. With Dubai Courts migrating to a smart system in 2019 our local advocates and court clerks are accustomed to operating online, therefore applications will go ahead as normal for the time being. Hearings will continue for certain matters as there are special provisions in place for urgent matters and criminal cases.

This update is pursuant to the issuance of the Decision No. 30 2020 issued by the Chief Justice of Dubai Courts.

DIFC Courts
Following the announcement on 17 March 2020, DIFC Courts and Registry Offices will be closed until April 26, 2020 (pending further notice). DIFC Court services will still be available for applications & hearings via eServices, videoconferencing & teleconferencing.

Hearings conducted from 17 March will be via teleconference for those in the UAE and videoconferencing for those oversees, yet pro bono clinics and probate appointments will be suspended until 26 April 2020 or until further notice. For the time being, Will Registry is unavailable however there will be a virtual registration option in the near future.

With remote hearings, online applications and e-bundling becoming common practice, our DIFC registered practitioners are well placed to handle online applications, therefore there should be little disruption to DIFC Court matters.
